A Theme Of Overconfidence In The Tell Tale Heart

The Tell-tale Heart, just like many Poe works is dark and mysterious. This one examines the events leading to the murder and the aftermath. This is the basic story, but it has many deeper meanings. Poe employs first-person narration, irony, and style to create a paranoia. This particular story uses first-person narration. This is a way to get inside the mind and find the sometimes thrilling thoughts. The Tell-tale Heart tells the story by the narrator, who is pleading for his own sanity. The story’s overall theme is that overconfidence can lead to destruction, and lies will be exposed constantly. I was certain that I became pale. However, I spoke more fluently and with a fearful face. This quote is a great way to help the reader see the danger of being too confident. It can be inferred that he was anxious, sweating, and afraid to get caught. This also shows the fear, detail and real emotions that he felt at that moment. Overconfidence can also be destructive. Here’s another! Hark! Louder! Louder! Louder!”. This quote illustrates the dangers of overconfidence. I also found a quote that said, “I confess the deed!” Get rid of the planks! Here, here! It is his hideous, beating heart!” These quotations show overconfidence in ways you wouldn’t expect. Although he is talking about his “heart,” he does not know that it’s all within his mind.

“And now, have I not told you that the only thing you mistakenly call madness but is over-acuteness of the senses?”. This quote shows that he didn’t believe he was crazy or mad. He believed he was more intelligent than he was. Another quote: “And now at night, in the dreadful silence that old house, so bizarre a noise this excites I to uncontrollable horror.” This quote is my favorite because it shows how scared he was to be caught. Instead, he told the police all the details and was eventually caught.

Let me conclude by saying that overconfidence can cause damage, sense can’t be controlled and there’s more than meets the eyes. Because you won’t be able to understand what’s happening if you have too much confidence. You become overconfident and believe you have the upper hand. He couldn’t see the bottom of his body and was thus caught.
